New Orleans, Louisiana – October 6, 2011: Looking for an original twist on a chilling treat for the upcoming Halloween holiday? New Orleans Coffee Company's CoolBrew Black VooDoo Brew Shots are sure to liven up any party! The black-colored shots are not only festive-looking but since they are made with CoolBrew coffee concentrate they are loaded with caffeine and full of flavor creating an ideal hair-raising treat – especially for coffee lovers.
“We started with a recipe of my Dad's and then made and tasted several batches until we got the recipe just right. We wanted to be sure the Brew Shots were as tasty with and without alcohol. And since this is New Orleans, we of course tried it with several different types of alcohol from liquor to liqueur,” stated a smiling Jeff McCrory.
A New Orleans original since 1989, CoolBrew coffee concentrate is as easily incorporated into the recipe as it is into a cup of coffee. Other than the refrigeration time, the jello recipe takes less than 15 minutes to prepare and with the startling number of fun Halloween molds available at stores these days, it is a no-brainer sweet treat for masqueraders to sink their teeth into this October 31st. The potion follows:
COOLBREW BLACK VOODOO BREW SHOTS
yields approximately 20 2-oz shots
| NON-ALCOHOLIC 2 envelopes unflavored Knox® Gelatine 1 cup CoolBrew Original* 2 ½ cups Water (boiling) ¾ cup Sugar (Brown or White) |
WITH-ALCOHOL 2 envelopes unflavored gelatin 1 cup CoolBrew Original* 2 cups Water (boiling) ¼ cup Sugar (brown or white) ½ cup Vodka or Light Rum |
METHOD: Dissolve gelatin into cold CoolBrew in a large bowl and let stand 1 minute. Add the boiling water and sugar to the bowl and stir. Liquid should not be lumpy. If adding alcohol, combine at this time. Pour into 2-oz cups or molds and chill in the refrigerator until set (approximately at least 3 hours). *CoolBrew Original can be substituted with any flavor CoolBrew.
HINT: The CoolBrew crew is also partial to Hazelnut and Vanilla with the recipe.

New Orleans Coffee Company and its CoolBrew brand created the New Orleans retail coffee concentrate category with the introduction of CoolBrew by late founder Philip McCrory in 1989. Since Phil’s passing, the company has remained a family business currently run by sons Greg McCrory and Jeff McCrory; production and bottling also remain in New Orleans from its Mid-City headquarters. Since inception CoolBrew has delivered fresh coffee in an instant through cold water brewing in which the most flavorful essence is extracted from freshly roasted coffee using absolutely no heat. With cold water brewing, the most flavorful oils are extracted leaving behind the bitter acids ensuring the richest possible flavor with the least bitter taste. The essence is 100% natural. Seven (7) different varieties – Original, Decaf, French Roast, Mocha, Vanilla, Toasted Almond and Hazelnut – are available at retail locations throughout LA and along the Gulf Coast as far as Pensacola, FL.
